Key takeaways

  • Bird droppings on outdoor signs can create unsanitary or slippery conditions and can also corrode signage and paint due to the acidity of the droppings.
  • Birds can also damage signs by pecking and roosting, while swooping and noise may distract customers and employees.
  • Bird spikes can help prevent nuisance birds from landing or roosting and are flexible enough to fit different contours.
  • Other bird control options for signage include control gel, wire barriers, netting, slopes, hazing, jolt tracks, and patching.
  • Professional cleaning and disinfecting can address accumulated bird droppings and nesting materials around business properties.

Outdoor signs help customers recognize your business and can play an important role in how your property looks. When birds perch or nest on signage, droppings and other bird activity can create an unsightly mess, cause damage, and lead to cleaning and safety concerns. Learn how bird control can help protect outdoor signs and reduce the problems caused by nuisance birds.

Signage solutions

Terminix Commercial® offers bird control solutions for virtually every business application, including signage. Control methods that can work effectively on signs include:

  • Control Gel - Waterproof, almost colorless and odorless, sticky control gel helps repel birds from perching or nesting. Control gel is used on horizontal surfaces (like signs), is effective even in high temperatures, and needs to be replaced only once every six months.
  • Spikes - A system of blunt-edged spikes can prevent nuisance birds from landing or roosting on ledges and signs. Virtually invisible, the spikes are flexible to fit any contour.
  • Wire Barrier - This solution is used on long, uninterrupted ledges and helps prevent birds from landing on ledges by creating an unstable surface. This method is used in conjunction with gel applications.

Other effective bird control solutions from Terminix Commercial include:

  • Netting
  • Slopes
  • Hazing
  • Jolt track
  • Patching

Terminix Commercial has fully licensed, professional technicians who are trained to correctly identify protected and endangered bird species and adhere to all applicable local, state and federally regulated control methods.
