So it’s been brought to our attention [that there] has been a big uptick in people wanting to own opossums as pets.

Well, you’ve got to think of a few things before you do that. One, is it even legal to own a possum where you live? Because in some states, some counties, some cities, it actually is illegal.

Also, when owning a possum, what you’ve got to consider is: are you going to be able to provide the right lifestyle that it needs to have? Opossums are naturally nocturnal, solitary marsupials. So unless you’re willing to stay up all night and play, maybe it’s not best that you own one.

Do opossums make good pets? Before you consider getting an opossum as a pet, you need to check if it is legal where you live. Second, you should consider if their lifestyle and care requirements are something you can commit to.
