Bed bugs on a plane. If you’ve been on a flight lately, you know the overhead bins are usually packed full. To avoid bed bugs hitching a ride on your cargo, opt for light-colored, hard-cased luggage. Bed bugs prefer fabrics, and in the case that one does hop on, the light color of your bag will reveal it right away.

Plane seats often have seams and folds that make it easy for bed bugs to hide. If you can, choose airlines with vinyl or leather seats rather than fabric. If not, you can also purchase plane seat covers to bring with you.

Bed bugs prefer the dark, so they just might find their way behind the screen of an in-flight entertainment system or tray table. If you spot one, be sure to inform a member of the crew immediately.

Who knows where those pillows and blankets have been before you get them. So, instead of borrowing from the airline, bring your own.
